Wellbutrin: The Poor Man’s Cocaine

At first glance, one would believe that Wellbutrin and cocaine have nothing in common. Wellbutrin is a smoking cessation aid that has also been seen to help prevent depression and seasonal depression, while cocaine is an illegal narcotic that famously causes overdoses and addiction. In reality, Wellbutrin snorting as a form of “poor man’s cocaine” has become more and more popular, but why? Counseling of Southwest Florida, providers of expert counseling in Naples, FL, have decided to investigate exactly why people are turning to the poor man’s coke and what they can expect in terms of side effects.

Can You Get High on Wellbutrin?

Similar to other Bupropion snorting, Wellbutrin is snorted for the desired effects of consuming more of the drug than recommended. Just what are the effects? Users have reported everything from euphoria to seizures, the poor man’s cocaine is perhaps just as unpredictable as the real thing. Overtaking the prescribed amount of this drug can cause some effects that mirror those of cocaine, heroin, and methamphetamines, but there is not nearly enough research done into the drug to conclude how much it would take to overdose when going past the recommended dosage.

Our group and individual counseling experts would also like to address the side effects that someone partaking in the abuse of snorting Wellbutrin can expect to experience. The side effects will likely vary from user to user but understanding what to broadly expect is extremely important.

Side Effects of Snorting Wellbutrin

When the poor man’s cocaine of Wellbutrin/Bupropion is snorted it is usually done as a way to abuse the substance and get the desired effect that would not typically be associated with the drug when taken as intended. When you snort Bupropion/Wellbutrin to the point of abuse you can expect to experience many undesirable side effects including but not limited to:

  • Nausea
  • Weight Loss
  • Headaches
  • Insomnia
  • Seizures
  • Hypotension
  • Coma
